Star Wars is a franchise known for its theories and headcanons, and one of the most longstanding theories regarding Luke Skywalker is the idea that Luke could be gay.

There are all sorts of wondrous creatures in the galaxy far, far away in which the Star Wars saga is set, and yet the one thing that seems to be lacking are queer people—which you will undoubtedly agree with me are actually quite ordinary and should probably appear more often than they do.

In all of the Star Wars canon—especially the new Disney-era canon—the number of LGBTQ+ characters that have appeared on screen (or in the pages of books) are few and far between.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Luke could be bisexual without contradicting this unfortunate romantic arc for Luke, although Star Wars has already muddied the waters regarding what really happened between Luke and Leia. This alone was controversial, however, because in Legends, Luke Skywalker had a wife named Mara Jade.

Luke is easily one of the best characters in Star Wars, and nearly 50 years after he first appeared in A New Hope, he continues to define the franchise.
