We think we’re in a narrow category, we think we only think one way, but with a openness, a little bit of breath, a little bit of expansiveness, a little bit of letting go of fears, there’s a lot more possible for us in all parts of our lives, including sex.

Totally.

Yeah.
That’s that initial spark that people feel, where they’re like the butterflies and love at first sight, or whatever you want to call it, that doesn’t last.

Dating App Tips
At some point every dater will hate the dating apps. Some things to look out for include data encryption, third-party sharing, and how the app handles your privacy preferences.
What about people whose relationship with our partner is unclear or unknown?
Additionally, the prefix “2S-” is added to the commonly used “LGBTQ+” in order to center traditional Indigenous two-spirit identities in the diverse sexuality and gender identities under the queer umbrella.
How to Find Safer Queer Dating Apps
If you choose to use dating apps, the first step to a safer dating experience as a queer person is finding the right online dating platform.
While most popular dating apps like Hinge and Bumble are queer-friendly, meaning they provide a number of preference options so you can specify who and what you’re interested in, there’s a bit more you should consider before signing up.
Some queer humans may struggle with the privacy concerns that come with using dating apps, and while some apps like Tinder allow you to block your phone contacts in the app, most don’t – and there’s nothing worse than swiping on your ex or revealing to your family that you’re queer via your profile.
There are a few precautions you can take to make your online dating experience safer:
- Look at the app’s terms of service: We know it’s boring to read through these, but it’s important to know what you’re signing up for.
And there was also verse and sides. It’s about finding middle ground and making adjustments for each other’s happiness and well-being.
If you are going to use dating apps in places that are more unfriendly to queerness, especially countries where there are explicit bans on anything related to being LGTBQ+, use extra caution in every part of the process - from who you swipe or match with, what you say, what information you share, and if and how you choose to meet up with them.
And I’m curious about how you see that impacting men who are dating.
Trevor Kuhn
Yeah, I really, I see it at an increasing level. And, you know, without even, you know, being out or knowing that I was gay like I was attracted to the good looking boys in high school. It’s important to approach conflicts with empathy and a willingness to move forward together.
- Support Each Other’s Goals
Support and encourage each other’s individual goals, whether they relate to career, personal growth, or hobbies. What if you were to decide that this person, this person that you say you care about, what if you decide that that you love them? So if you you know, I do offer three or six months of relationship coaching, but if you want to just do one session, you can, you can purchase that through my website, and we can kind of get, get a get a feel for what coaching, more beyond that would would look like, depending on what your your goals are and what you’re struggling with.
You might be surprised at the lack of privacy some apps afford users! It’s a way to ensure that both partners feel respected and cared for, even when disagreements arise.
- Commitment
Commitment is the foundation that holds a relationship together, especially during difficult times. We also know that increasingly, dating apps have been used as a way for those who want to cause harm to find victims - from government agencies attempting to identify and arrest queer individuals to dangerous individuals using them as a way to find new victims.Dating as a member of the LGBTQ+ community can come with many challenges, but your safety shouldn’t ever be put in jeopardy.
That’s why we definitely recommend researching your potential date as much as possible before the first in-person meeting. And, you know, I’m all for being healthy and fit, and, you know, presenting that healthy version of yourself.
This can be a really great tool in your safety tool belt. The, of course, with the rise of social media and the ability to, you know, create an online persona, there’s this high focus on aesthetics.
