How do you determine the best cities for same-sex households in Mississippi for 2025

In order to rank the gayest cities in Mississippi, we used Saturday Night Science and the 2013-2018 American Community Survey from the U.S. Census. However, the most ironic thing is that queer life is still flourishing in spite of all this.

In the past, the state’s older LGBT community would meet in places such as classrooms, athletic fields, church socials, and family reunions.

Such sites are often assumed to be hostile to sexual and gender nonconformity, but such nonconformity has flourished in precisely these settings in Mississippi.

That’s not to say a heterosexual realtor isn’t capable, but they’ve probably never had to address many of the issues LGBT people face.

You can just start with a no-obligation conversation, and if you decide to continue with your move to Mississippi – they will not only have your best interests at heart but also ensure you are treated with dignity and respect throughout the entire process.

The Bean, an exquisite coffee hangout, is welcoming, and so is the Saltine Oyster Bar. The truth is that while Jackson seems to be very queer-friendly, the truth is that there’s nothing here without limits.

Of course, the Mississippi friendliness isn’t lost on anyone when they notice you are gay.

Rather than just being concerned with how bustling, fashionable, or up-and-coming a neighborhood is (or what it may appear like), gay realtors conduct extensive research into the neighborhoods in which they sell homes to ensure that clients are safe.

It used to be challenging to locate professional LGBT-friendly real estate agents in Mississippi, and it was virtually impossible to find one if you were relocating here from out of state and didn’t have access to a local referral.

There are no state-level laws in Mississippi that explicitly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing, or public accommodations.

However, in Biloxi, Mississippi, there is a budding movement towards greater inclusivity. It’s just the backstabbing during voting that will tell you exactly what people think.

Furthermore, unfortunately, many people (up to a third of Americans) believe that our community does not deserve protection and dignity in housing, adoption, employment, and other areas of life.

So it’s no surprise that LGBT people who use mainstream realtors often describe feelings of discomfort, unnecessary trouble, unenthusiastic representation, or even antagonism or outright contempt.

Magnolia is home to Youth of Color, an organization that’s dedicated to the equality of everyone regardless of their gender identity, expression, or sexual orientation.

All this, put together, has made significant contributions to the city’s progressiveness. Furthermore, living in rural parts of the state is more affordable than living in urban parts of the state.

It’s normal for strangers to say hi as you walk down the street because it’s simply courteous to do so. The twenty-first-century political struggle has largely been led by Equality Mississippi and its executive director, Jody Renaldo.

Transgender persons have occasionally found amenable physicians, including gay doctor Ben Folk, and hospitals for treatments, as at the University Medical Center in Jackson.

We looked at:

  • Percentage of all households that are unmarried, same sex partners

We limited the analysis to non-CDPs that have over 1,000 households.

We ranked each place from 1 to 81 with the city containing the highest percentage of unmarried, same sex partners households being the most gay.

In the end, ended up being the the most gay place with 2.46% gay households.

We updated this report for 2025.

Food costs in Mississippi are amongst the lowest in the country, and groceries cost 6.9% less than the national median.

Transportation

Transport costs in the state are also lower than the national average. Though anchored in state and local struggles for social change, Orr and Paslay and the Hensons became key figures in national and international women’s reform movements.

When male public figures have been implicated in homosexual acts, mainstream media scandals historically have erupted.

When towns and cities achieved the critical mass to support more than one queer bar, separate black and white establishments usually resulted.
