21, details their humiliations and public infidelities during their tumultuous two-decade marriage, and Ball being scrutinized for communist sympathies by the FBI that nearly derailed her career.
When the couple began dating, they continued to see other people nearly until their November wedding.
Weeks before exchanging vows, Arnaz brought screen siren Ginger Rogers – apparently pregnant with his child – to Canada for an abortion, Porter said.
Meanwhile, Porter said Ball continued a fling with Henry Fonda that began in 1939 and also had a brief encounter with a Milwaukee politician while on a press tour.

However, an “impulsive” Arnaz decided it was time to immediately tie the knot.
“One morning, after a night of heavy sex, apparently, he woke her up at 6:30 and said, ‘We’re getting married,'” Porter said.
“He blew off his matinee show at the Roxy in NYC and they drove to Greenwich, Conn., for an elopement without any friends in attendance or even a white wedding dress.
“When the newlyweds returned to the city later that day for a meeting with RKO president George Schaefer, Arnaz forgot to zip up his pants.
You know, they were hookers.”
But Desi’s infidelity wasn’t for a lack of affection for Ball or their two children, Lucie and her brother, Desi Arnaz Jr. “He loved my mother, he loved his family,” Lucie said. He was endlessly ridiculed for wearing a wristwatch and gold bracelet – like a lady. (She and Roland were also heavily involved romantically.)
Like many other stars, he joined up and served in the military during WWII.
Their partnership created television history, and their love—complex but real—left an indelible mark on fans who watched them fall in love both on and off the screen.
