Though open to everyone, the spirit of my classes comes from the LGBTQ+ community, which has always defied societal standards and marched to its own beat. It's crucial to show the world we excel in every facet of life, and our stories deserve to be told.
In my 32 years of living I am continually learning that authenticity is key. I started doing group workouts before our shows.
Her example in self-love and authenticity has given me strength to show up for myself and others like us. I started getting more into fitness then. I changed my training style to a push-pull approach. It was difficult because I knew I was gay at a young age, but I didn’t want to disappoint my family—they wanted me to play basketball. There's Todd Brandon Morris, owner of OUT-FIT, a gym in New York City that offers a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community to train at any stage of their fitness journey.
If there’s something I want to do, I’ll do it—especially if I see no one else doing it—to make it easier for those who come after me.
I know I can wear heels one day, make a voguing video, and post it. I fell in love with fitness in college while spending a summer with my Pops. They were small enough to discreetly fit into a jacket pocket.”
Still, that doesn’t mean that the bodybuilding world was a “safe” place to be out as a gay man.
And at that time, I was studying to become a personal trainer and have since become one.
I always wanted to try competitive bodybuilding, but was afraid to compete. My mom asked where I’d been, but I didn’t tell her the truth. I have worked in gym spaces where my Blackness and queerness felt like they were merely checking a box, rather than being genuinely valued for the unique perspectives they bring to my classes.
If more queer people had such an example in their life, maybe they too would build the same strength within themselves. I always tell people not to be afraid. That’s why I love it—because I can have both worlds; not have to choose.

I was constantly subjected to the words "man up." Despite my constant effort to fit in and please others, I was called homophobic slurs before I even knew what being gay meant. You can catch him leading Strength and HIIT classes throughout New York City. But the femme side is just me, whether I’m offstage or even in the gym. I used to be more of a split-training guy, focusing on one body part at a time.
DMM: Personally, I haven’t faced any struggles or negativity. In 2008, I moved to NYC to be part of the ballroom scene and model. These sessions were like therapy.
